Avoiding Seed and Vegetable Oils
Toxic Seed Oils
Why and Can we Avoid Them?
For as long as I can remember going to grocery stores was always a challenge. I can remember being five years old reading every label vigilantly looking out for enemy number one, high fructose corn syrup. At first, It was so disappointing to toddler me, having to pass up all the colorful sugar-laden cereals, never touching soda, and never having a Lunchable whilst all my kindergarten peers devoured those things at lunchtime.
For me, reading labels has been and still is a lifelong commitment. I learned at a young age how it wasn’t sacrificing or forsaking these items, rather they were hidden enemies trying to sneak their way into your body. Today, I am grateful for never getting addicted to sodas or processed foods.
In our home the motto passed down from my grandmother was, never skimp on the quality of your food for that is the real health care cost.
Avoiding processed foods has come as second nature to me. What I didn’t know was the next piece of the puzzle, and that is the omnipresence of seed & vegetable oils.
Seed oils are everywhere. They hide in the organic grocery store. They surprise you in salad dressings. They can arise in the delicious organic local bakery. They sit on your kitchen shelf waiting for you to sauté with them. The list goes on and on!
But why would we want to avoid them?! Good question.
I will spare the long-winded explanation for you to go off and do your own research, but the key takeaways are as follows:
All vegetable oils are extracted in a highly refined, highly chemical, high temperature, and highly toxic way, that were originally going to be waste products. Industrial profit is at play here.
These oils significantly increase our chance of getting cancer, inflammation, heart disease, passing down autoimmune diseases to our children, and increase the chance of developing many other major health concerns.
Vegetable and Seed oils are more prone to oxidation, and every fat we consume becomes incorporated into our cell membranes. Our bodies use oxygen as fuel, seed oils oxidate when exposed to oxygen, you can see the problem with this equation. They destroy our cells.
They are found everywhere, even if you are not cooking with them, every processed food will probably have some seed oil added to it!
Seed oils increase the risk of death by 62%
Seed oil production also has a negative environmental impact. They are a major driver of global deforestation. (source from zeroacre.com)

Can we avoid seed oils?!
Once you are aware you will find them everywhere. The only solution I have is to make as much as possible from scratch, using local seasonal organic products. It has been so hard to go out to eat, but now I just go in knowing that I will probably consume mass amounts of seed oils whilst out, and factor that in before deciding if it is worth it.
Oils to avoid:
Cottonseed, Corn, Sunflower, Safflower, Soy, Grapeseed, Peanut, Ricebran, etc.
Healthier Fat Alternatives:
Use: Butter, Organic Grassfed (Raw) Ghee, Organic Grassfed if possible Grassfed Organic Beef Tallow, Avocado, Extra Virgin, Unrefined Coconut, Extra Virgin Unrefined Olive, Extra Virgin Unrefined. Use with discernment, many extra virgin olive oils are mislabeled and can contain added toxic filler oils and or had additional heat during extraction.
Another component to keep in mind with oils is that they go rancid when exposed to heat. So even if you are cooking with healthier alternatives, heating the oils can make them toxic to your health.
Is there any simple solution?
After researching more and more about oils, the dangers of seed oils I was at a loss. Was there any simple trick that I could use daily, and feel at ease knowing my oils were healthy for me?!
Then it was there! Such a simple trick I couldn’t believe how easy it was and why I didn’t think about it before. You see, it is funny how we passed down the tradition of cooking to first add the oil/butter then start adding onions/vegetables/garlic/ you name it! Why was this how we do things?! Why does everyone and every recipe start this way?!
So I figured it out the simple trick and shared it in this video.
Now, whenever I cook I use this trick and substitute/ignore the oils in recipes.
I really hope this helps you out and that you start your own journey of researching seed/vegetable oils!
