How to Homemade Almond Milk in 4 Steps

Making Almond Milk at home sounds impressive yet takes minutes:

Ingredients:

2 Cups Raw Organic Almonds

2/3 tsp Vanilla Powder

4-6 Dates pitted to sweeten

6 cups /1250 ml Water

1 pinch salt to preserve

Supplies:

1 Blender

Bowls & Storage containers

1 Nut straining bag or cheesecloth

Process:

1. Soak the Almonds

Pre-Prep the almonds for making milk by soaking them in water. Soaking can be anywhere from 15 minutes to overnight. The soaking process is crucial since nuts contain phytic acid which prevents the body from properly digesting the nutrients in the nuts. Many people including, myself, are unaware that soaking aids the body so the nuts can be properly digested. Without proper soaking nuts can actually have an anti-nutritional effect, and this actually applies to all nuts such as sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. Remember to SOAK YOUR NUTS to activate the health-boosting benefits and to make the milk creamier. I will spare the science, but if you are curious about doing your own research there are many articles about nut soaking available online.

2. Add all Ingredients to the Blender

Add the soaked almonds, dates, vanilla, water, and salt. Turn on blender starting at a low power increasing to high speed. Blend until creamy- about 1 minute depending on the power of your blender.

3. Carefully Pour Almond mixture in Nut Cloth to Strain & Squeeze

The trickiest part to keep clean, pour the contents of the blender through the cloth to strain the milk from the almond pulp over a bowl. This is also the most fun part, create an almond udder and milk it. Squeeze the vegan udder and make sure to get out all the liquid.

4. Pour the Almond Milk in a Storage Container, Date, and Enjoy!

Congratulations, you now made your very own almond milk! Make sure to consume within a few days since the milk is homemade it does not keep as long as the store-bought kind. Enjoy the milk and your new impressive skills. Do not forget to flip the cloth inside out and rise out the residual almond chunks.

Pro-Tip

You can save the leftover almond pulp to bake with or make an almond hummus. There are many uses for the pulp!
