Chicago

I was just back home in Chicago for about two weeks. It was fantastic to be home. I got to eat all of the horrible for you junk food that I have been craving and also go to some pretty great steakhouses. The best steakhouses are in Wisconsin though. I did eat at those as well. You get fried cheese curds on fried cheese curds! Can't beat that. While I am home I never really take pictures. It is happening in Stockholm too! You just get used to all the architectural beauty around you that you forget to capture the moment! I have to work on that.

While I was home I was able to renew my Art Institute membership. Most of the pictures will be museum ones! I do love a good art museum and AI is great. They were having a special Ireland exhibit while I was there. We also went to the field and saw a viking exhibit! Make sure to also go to the Chicago Cultural center. They have a beautiful Tiffany dome, and get a Wildberry breakfast while you are in the area. Their eggs benedict and pancakes are worth the wait.

In addition I discovered Portilos delivers to my apartment. Score! Those hot dogs are what dreams are made of. It isn't a real hotdog UNLESS it is a Chicago dog. We also went to Andersonville and strolled around. The saddest thing about it was the Swedish deli is being closed by the city! It is such an iconic part of Andersonville that I wish there was a way to help them to keep it open. It is so sad to see the iconic mom&pop stores go. I like to support the local neighborhoods that make Chicago great.

Speaking of neighborhoods. Chicago is a city of 'em. If you don't leave the loop you miss out on a lot. We went to Wicker Park and ate at Slice pizza and went to the Wormhole. While out and about walking around I saw the prettiest little tissue paper window display that drew me in. It was a spa/store like Lush calledMojo spa.  They had so many cute bath and beauty products that I picked some up for presents for friends back in Sweden.

Then we went to Andersonville- the Swedish neighborhood. Kopi coffee. Ohmy! It is a "traveller's cafe" They have a little shop in the back and when you walk in you are greeted by foreign currencies. I love it! I am sad we had to leave since our meter was going to expire. I am definitely going to go back next time I am home.

Then made the mandatory trip to Oak Park and went to Sen sushi. I have a tradition of going there on my way home from the airport. So yummy :) We also drove around the Frank LLoyd Wright homes.

Overall it was a relaxing trip home and it was nice to be back. The only annoyance was that my SAS flight home was cancelled and they didn't inform me until I was at the check in counter! So I stayed an extra day to get on the next direct flight back to Stockholm. Then again it was cancelled.... Again at the counter... Not fun. So I got re-routed to London which was an extra hassle.
